The MUBS 18th Annual Management International Conference went into its 2nd day at its main venue, the Common Wealth Resort Munyonyo yesterday September 4, 2013. The conference registered over 200 participants and over 110 papers. The conference was opened by Prof. Mondo Kangonyera the Chancellor for Makerere University. He commended the uniqueness of MUBS in the way it does its things and wondered why similar institutions did not learn from it. He remarked that  when he was training as a veterinary Doctor in the University of Nairobi , business and management courses were not seen as important and looking at the role these two played in the world today, he wondered whether there was no deliberate effort by governments then not to teach business courses to people in these parts of the world. He noted the big group of accountants and auditors and urged them to contribute to Africa’s development by not being corrupt.

He paid tribute to Uganda’s current Auditor General Mr. John Muwanga whom he said has over the years showed a very high level of integrity, thoroughness s and lack of favour in performing his job. He also appreciated the role of academia in generating knowledge but noted that these days there was no respect for knowledge. He called for a renaissance in regards to the love of knowledge. He said that growth of nations depended on the knowledge that they had created. He finally challenged academicians to develop love for knowledge if they were to help their countries improve.

During the opening ceremony Prof. Victor Mbarika delivered the keynote address. Mbarika is an endowed professor in Southern University who is arguing that for Africa to develop there was need to for Africans to use ICT in different aspects of life. Mbarika has been researching into how African traditional medicine can be utilized better using ICT. He is passionate at ICT and has developed programmes to help different African countries to increase its enrollment in university education.
