“If we do not pay our taxes, we will be cheating ourselves; we will be frustrating ourselves.
When you pay your taxes 100 %, then you have the moral obligation and the right to hold your government accountable,” said Ms. Doris Akol, URA Commissioner General. She was officiating at the launch of a Post Graduate Diploma in Tax Intelligence (PODITI) at Makerere University Business School on Thursday 28, May 2015, Bugolobi Annex. According to this collaboration, MUBS will teach the tax collectors and Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) will fully fund the programme. The Post Graduate Diploma in Tax Intelligence (PODITI) programme will equip URA officers with technical knowledge and skills to be more efficient in tax collection with the aim of improving Uganda’s trade facilitation and revenue collection. “We are grateful to MUBS for accepting to work with the tax collectors, this will enable URA popularize the concept of taxation,” noted Ms. Akol.

MUBS Deputy Principal Dr. Moses Muhwezi applauded URA for identifying MUBS as the best alternative to train their staff in the tax system. He welcomed the collaboration saying it will enable the School expand its networks. Dr. Muhwezi also appealed to the Authority to further expand their collaboration into joint research especially in the areas of tax administration. The School is working with the customs team at Uganda Revenue Authority to develop a training strategy for customs officers.
